3 Ways Tenacity Helps You Navigate an Inflection Point

As leaders, inflection points can be the most challenging things to navigate. You understand how critical it is to make the right decision at the right time. Otherwise, the consequences could be dire.

At Tenacious Leadership Institute, we focus on building a deeper sense of tenacity (our definition includes presence, focus, commitment, determination and renewal) to ensure that you are successful at inflection points and with any other changes you may need to lead.

When met with an inflection point, successful leaders initially take time to:

1. Understand the landscape within which they are operating

2. Determine the various issues and challenges facing the project/team/company

3. Map out the scope of impact to all key stakeholders

4. Explore critical decisions that need to be made

In addition to the above, successful leaders also explore how to innovate during the inflection point to create new solutions/products/services that have the potential to accelerate growth.

In order to navigate the above actions in a skillful manner, leaders must embody a deep sense of tenacity to help them weather the storm and emerge on the other side.

Here are three important questions you can ask to build your tenacity when navigating an inflection point.

1. Do I fully understand the landscape within which we are facing an inflection point or am I making faulty assumptions? What additional data points do I need to look at?

2. How can I ensure I am listening keenly to my team, colleagues and senior leadership to understand their concerns and issues with the upcoming change? What additional questions or conversations must I have?

3. Have a created a full map of critical decisions that must be made before, during and after the change required to be successful navigating the inflection point?

By asking these three questions, you will position yourself well to lead change in your organization. And, you will be building your tenacity so that you can be more present, focused and determined in your leadership.
